Whether you're a seasoned athlete or more of a slippers and pajamas person, pregnancy inevitably disrupts your routine. It's a time when you can tend to put yourself in the background.
Between all the changes in our bodies and the preparations for the arrival of the baby, doing sports is not always the number one priority. Especially when you are going through a difficult pregnancy.
How to start a sports activity?
However, it can be a good idea to take some time for yourself, become aware of your changing body and reclaim it.
Of course, we're not telling you to go run a marathon, that wouldn't be recommended, but why not start off gently with a bit of gentle exercise, a yoga session or even meditation!
Don't try it alone, don't hesitate to get help, pregnancy is a very special time for the body, not everything is recommended! Today, in the gym or on apps you will find programs specially designed and studied to exercise safely throughout your pregnancy.
What programs are recommended?
For example, you can follow the Fitmama Pregnancy program from the Train Sweat Eat app. It is a 36-week video program that combines fitness, yoga and meditation.
Designed and supervised by a coach, this program will allow you to take some time for yourself, to exercise safely and lightly thanks to the good humor of the coaches on video.
You can also download the Top Body Pregnant Women sports program by Sonia TLEV. A sports coach, she designed this program following her first pregnancy in 2017. This is a 30-week program to stay in shape throughout your pregnancy.
This time it is a program in PDF format but perfectly illustrated in order to be able to reproduce the exercises.
Other possibilities for self-care
Finally, if sports are really not your thing, or you are not able to practice them, do not hesitate to turn to meditation. It is a very good way to refocus on yourself and relax. You can try meditation with the Petit Bambou application, an application offering guided meditation for beginners and advanced with free meditation. You will find 900 meditations in French but also cardiac coherence and ambient and relaxing sounds and music. Meditation will allow you to let go, refocus on your emotions, daily life, the body… and so many other themes.
Finally, pregnancy is a very special time in the life of a woman (and a couple) and it is important to listen to yourself, to be kind to yourself. All women experience their pregnancy differently and if sport is very beneficial for one it may not be the case for another, so listen to yourself, do what makes you feel good.
Obviously, before you start practicing a sport, talk to your doctor or midwife.
Good session!
